Only The Insane Will Ride The World’s Tallest Elevator

If you are scared of heights, then I’d probably steer clear of this article. Its contents will probably cause you to have heart palpitations. Furthermore, if the thought of stepping inside an elevator makes you weak at the knees, I’d suggest you do the same and get out while you can.

I present to you the Bailong Elevator.

It should come as no surprise that this is the tallest outdoor elevator in the world. I imagine the sights are pretty sublime from up there but I’m not sure I’d have the bottle. Would you?

You can find this monstrous creation in a mountain range in China’s Hunan Province and by the looks of things you won’t find much else around it. Well, except the 49 other people sharing the lift with you and the huge crowds gathered at the top who are soaking up the glorious view.

The Bailong, also known as the the Hundred Dragons elevator, stands at a staggering 1,070ft (330m) tall. However, it’s practically just a child in comparison to the elevator found inside this gargantuan skyscraper…

The Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is double the Bailong’s height – at 2,165ft (660m). When the building is completed in two years’ time, it will also boast the world’s fastest double-decker lift which will travel at 32ft (10m) per second. So it’s basically a theme park ride.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not sure my stomach could handle a trip in either of those contraptions. Especially as they are both made out of glass, meaning that you could take a cracking photo but you’d probably get shit scared in the process.

Before today I wasn’t scared of lifts. However, this is sadly not the case anymore. To be on the safe side, I think I’ll always just take the escalators from now on, just not the strange way people in China are riding them after a horrific accident.
